Community I am From, Advancing Through the Indian Art Market:I was born and raised in Arcata, a small town in northern California. Arcata is home to many of the region's Indigenous Tribal People including the Yurok, Karuk, Hupa and Arcata's original inhabitants, the Wiyot Weott People. Many of the Indigenous People there are dedicated to the continuance of their Native traditions, tribal traditional gatherings, cultural ceremonies, fishing and hunting, as well as the basket weaving and regalia that distinguish their tribal styles from others. These traditions inspire many Tribal People to create some of the most amazing contemporary art, however, being that their community is rural, the opportunity to realize a financially successful life as an artist is seldom realized. California-tribal-influenced art is seldom seen in the Indian art market today. By promoting Native American Indian artists, we can fill an empty cultural void with Native American imagery and make our artists' work very desirable and more prevalent amongst collectors in the Indian Art Market.
